The Chronicle

Join The Chronicle

Most people tend to shy away from controversy. If you’re not one of them, you may have the makings of a great reporter. Or maybe you prefer profiling interesting personalities and organizations, writing movie or music reviews, reporting on campus sports teams, taking photos, editing copy or designing pages. Whatever your journalistic interests, The Chronicle values your skills.

When you join the staff, you’ll become part of a journalistic tradition spanning more than 125 years. Our award-winning weekly newspaper, published Fridays during the academic year, is read widely by the campus community. You may join the staff as a volunteer or earn academic credit by signing up for the practicum. And you don’t have to be a journalism major to become involved.

Student editors run the show with support from the faculty adviser. If you’re a go-getter who hits the ground running, you can rise quickly to a leadership position. Staff members may apply for scholarships as early as the middle of their freshman year, with annual awards ranging from $900 to $2,000.

In each issue, we strive for journalistic excellence. During the past decade, The Chronicle has earned dozens of awards from the Illinois College Press Association. Many of our former staff members have used the editorial and leadership skills gained through their Chronicle experience to pursue graduate studies and launch careers in the Chicago area and other cities across the country.
