Broadcast Communication
This major prepares you to work in the radio and television industries. To earn a B.A. in broadcasting, you need to complete at least 33.5 credit hours, including
• SPC 100 Speech Communication
• SPC 185 Mass Media and Society
• SPC 262 Radio Production and Direction
• SPC 269 Television Production
• SPC 273 Station Programming
• SPC 287 Advanced Public Speaking
• SPC 325 Communication Law
• SPC 412 Media Criticism
• two courses on writing for TV and film.
• either SPC 405 Advanced Radio Production and Direction or SPC 417 Advanced Video Production
• one of the following: THE 182 Acting I, SPC 223 Oral Interpretation or SPC 367 Persuasion Theories
• either three separate terms of credit or non-credit work at WONC radio station (SPC 117 Radio Performance) or with Cardinal Video (SPC 113 TV Performance) or an internship.

You can earn a minor in broadcasting by taking 18 to 24 credit hours from the courses listed above, including three courses above the 100-level and at least one at the 300- or 400-level. 

Organizational Communication
The organizational communication major focuses on communication in businesses and other institutional settings and is ideal for careers in management, public relations or customer relations. To earn a B.A. in organizational communication, you need to complete at least 39 credit hour, including
• SPC 100 Speech Communication
• SPC 185 Mass Media and Society
• SPC 200 Interpersonal Communication
• SPC 214 Group Process
• SPC 230 Business and Professional Speaking
• SPC 287 Advanced Public Speaking
• SPC 330 Organizational Communication
• one additional Speech Communication course at the 300 level.
• SOA 200 Research Methods: Quantitative
• either ENG 220 News Writing or SPC 277 Broadcast Copywriting
• one additional writing class at the 200 level or higher.
• two courses focusing on persuasion, drawn from a list that includes courses in business, English, leadership studies, psychology and speech communication.

You can earn a minor in organizational communication by taking 21-24 credit hours from the courses listed above.

Speech Communication
This major provides you with insight into how, why and with what impact people create, interpret and evaluate verbal and nonverbal messages and is good preparation for graduate study in speech communication or a career in speech writing, marketing or sales. To earn a B.A. in speech, you must complete at least 33 credit hours, including
• SPC 100 Speech Communication
• SPC 200 Interpersonal Communication
• SPC 214 Group Process
• SPC 285 Argumentation and Debate
• SPC 287 Advanced Public Speaking
• SPC 300 Communication Theory
• either SPC 367 Persuasion Theories or SPC 410 Rhetorical Criticism
• either THE 182 Acting I or SPC 223 Oral Interpretation
• either SPC 185 Mass Media and Society or SPC 262 Radio Production and Direction
• at least two additional upper level speech courses (which could include internships and independent study projects)
• three terms of credit or non-credit skill practice activities.
