Verne Dietrich, professor of physics at North Central from 1952 to 1974, died on May 12, 2006. He earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue University, served in the armed forces during World War II, and went onto earn a M.S. from Notre Dame and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Purdue. He taught mathematics at Auburn University before working full time at NACA, the forerunner of NASA. At North Central, Verne and his physics students started the campus radio station, then WNOC-540 AM. He also worked as a science and engineering consultant at Spraying Systems Company, the world's leading manufacturer of industrial spray nozzles headed by one of his former students, James Bramsen '59. After retiring from North Central, Verne continued working as a staff physicist and engineer at Spraying Systems until age 72. Members of his family plan to establish a Verne E.
