American Mathematics Contest
The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) provide middle and high school age students with the opportunity to compete with students across the country. While many middle and high schools offer this opportunity many do not. As a resut, North Central College offers all three of these exams at its Naperville campus. There is no charge for these exams, but advance registration is required. Note that only schools can register at the AMC site.
The AM8 is a 25 question, 40 minute multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. The examination provides an opportunity to apply the concepts taught at the junior high level to problems which not only range from easy to difficult but also cover a wide range of applications. Many problems are designed to challenge students and to offer problem solving experiences beyond those provided in most junior high school mathematics classes. High scoring students are invited to participate in the AMC 10. The contest is held in November every year. The exam is open to students who have not yet completed the eighty grade are are 14.5 years of age or younger on the date of the contest.

AMC 10 and AMC 12
The AMC 10 is a 25 question, 75 minute multiple choice examination in secondary school mathematics containing problems which can be understood and solved with algebra and geometry concepts. The AMC 12 is a 25 question, 75 minutes multiple choice examination in secondary school mathematics containing problems which can be understood and solved with pre-calculus concepts. Two different versions of the contests are given on two dates, about two weeks apart, in February. North Central College offers these exams only on the later of the two dates. The AMC 10 is open to students in 10th grade or lower and who are 17.5 years of age or younger on the day of the contest. The AMC 12 is open to students in the 12th grade or lower who are 19.5 years of age or younger on the day of the contest. Students who do well on either of these exams are invited to participate in the American Invitational Mathematics Competiton.
