Program and Degree Options
You can major or minor in Japanese at North Central College. A major requires 24 credit hours (usually eight courses), including three credit hours at the 400-level and a term of study in Japan. A minor requires 18 credit hours (usually six courses), including six credit hours at the 300-level.
Where to start? If you begin your study of Japanese at North Central, JPN101 is the first course you will take.
The elementary (101, 102, 103) and intermediate (201, 202, 203) levels in Japanese must be taken sequentially. Afterwards, you can study abroad in Japan in your junior or senior year. You can choose the term(s) you want to study in Japan, and your study abroad credits will replace some of the third and fourth year courses. Recent advanced course topics have included Business Japanese, Japanese Literature and Japanese Linguistics.
