Program and Degree Options - Undergraduate

Major in Elementary Education

  • B.A. in elementary education with a minor or area of specialization. Some minors or areas of specialization will make you eligible to teach middle school

  • Become eligible for a State of Illinois Elementary Certificate

Minor in Secondary Education

  • Become a teacher of art, English, foreign language (Spanish, French or German), mathematics, music, physical education, science (biology, chemistry, or physics), or social science (history).

  • Become eligible for a State of Illinois Secondary Certificate (English, mathematics, science, or social science) or for a Special Certificate (art, foreign language, music, or physical education)

Minor in Reading or in English Language Learning (ELL)

  • Acquire additional course work to become effective in teaching reading to elementary students

  • Or working with English as a second language students in elementary, middle or high school.
